- Graduate Leominster High school – Class of 1969
- 1967 New England Champion – 400 Freestyle Relay (Bruce Willad, Bill Gaillardet, Ken McHugh, Mark Cleaves)
- 1968 New England Champion – 100 Yard Freestyle
- 1969 New England Champion – 50 Yard Freestyle
- 1969 New England Champion – 100 Yard Freestyle
- Attended University of Vermont
- 1972-1073 Won 5 Yankee Conference Championships (50 and 100 Yard Freestyle, Medley Relay)

- 1972 he was elected to Sigma Delta Psi, the honorary athletic fraternity
- 1973 led UVM to a 10 win – 0 loss in dual meets
- 1973 Vermont Swimmer of the Year
- 1973 – Elected team captain and was awarded the Semans Trophy a, honoring a senior athlete for leadership, loyalty and service to the University
- After graduation, Bruce became the first Aquatics Director at St. Michael’s College, and also taught for 8 years at Georgia (Vt.) Elementary School before moving to Rhode Island
- 1987 Inducted into the University of Vermont Hall of Fame
