Leominster Hall of Fame class unveiled
After nearly two years of careful planning, the Leominster High School Athletics Hall of Fame is ready to induct its inaugural class.
Yes, the school has a hall in place already for its storied football program, but now athletes from all sports, spanning more than 100 years, will be immortalized for their contributions to and accomplishments as Blue Devils.
An 11-person committee has worked tirelessly together and, through lengthy planning, has come up with a class of 14 individuals and three teams to be inducted as all-time greats on Oct. 3. Members of the previously mentioned football shrine and recently created baseball hall will be automatically absorbed into the comprehensive Athletic Hall of Fame.
“We wanted to put in people who everyone would be OK with in the first class,” committee member Dom Ciccolini said. “And the goal is to represent all sports, both genders. Football is number one in Leominster, so they had their hall, but there was no tennis, no track, no basketball, no baseball until last year.
“It’s been a long time coming.”
